“Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn”

I believe that.  I also believe that in sitting, watching, and listening,  we will inevitably tap into a vision, a spark, and idea of who we are and what we are meant to contribute to this world.  For it is when we stop, when we listen, and when we see clearly how we are compelled to move forward.  Chaos begets chaos.  Monotany begets monotany.  How do you stop the cycle?  How do you take time to stop…  To listen…  To see…  And to act?  Whether it’s letting go of something that is holding you back, or saying the words you’ve been meaning to say, or taking a step into the unknown that you’ve been afraid to face.  What is your vision that you need to call forth in order to grow?  What stands in your way?

Fall is upon us.  Change is all around, now  is a perfect time to ask yourself these questions.

Today, my new single of a very old irish hymn is available on iTunes.  ‘Be Thou My Vision’. I have had my own ‘vision’ of sharing this song in the truest way I could create for quite some time now.  As an artist,  I know that vision is constantly in formation.  I consider it my duty to paint the truest picture I can paint through my music for you, and somehow, that will continue to move me forward in my own creation.

Natachee's Supper 'n' Punch!

Hey everyone!

I am really excited about playing THIS WEEKEND at one of my favorite new places in town.  Natachee’s!  Now this is going to be an all afternoon gig, we’re gonna get out a few acoustic guitars and sing from 1-5pm. So, bring the kids, bring your friends, come on out and enjoy this beautiful fall weekend out in the backyard at Natachee’s.  Might I suggest the daughter in law burger, the sliders, and the fried pickles for an afternoon snack! mmmm

How is this possible?  Fortunately, I had an escape for a while there;  was Rocky Mountain high last week and loving it. I grew up in Colorado, so I have to get my Colorado fix to feel complete as often as possible.   Just before I left, I received a copy of my friend Courtney’s new book.  Her book is a series of 10 short stories (created by Courtney) based on Nick Drake’s 1969 Album ‘Five Leaves Left’.  I was SO excited to receive my copy for a few reasons:

1. Courtney and I go back to college days and she is a true artist. I knew this in the performance/stage sense, however,  I had never read any of her work but I just knew it would be amazing.

2. I finally had that ‘vacation read’ that I had been looking for!

3. This book would fit appropriately in my patagonia pocket. The perfect accessory to my hiking adventures in the mountains.

4. A book based on songs? Awesome.

So, I packed my little book in my pocket and headed for the hills.  I must say, Courtney’s writing is more than I imagined.  Just like Nick Drake’s songs, her stories transport you into an imaginary world delicately and without warning.  I laughed,  I cried, I wanted to know more about these people that she painted in a mere few pages.  Reading her stories made me go back and listen to the songs again and again.  This book is truly a work of art.

Those of you who know me know that.  When I come upstairs to the study to find this face resting on my guitar…it’s hard to turn him down. This, my friends, is Pancho. Our rescued ‘golden retriever’.  On our way to pick him up a little over a year ago, ‘Pancho and Lefty’ was playing in the car. We had all intentions of naming him Enchilada…but Pancho was much more fitting.  He was a tough pup surviving the street life.  Now he’s a spoiled house dog with a heart of gold.   Off to play the guitar to Pancho (and Mae of course, she’s the other canine in this house, more on her later.)  Have a wonderful and safe 4th of July.  We’re counting down to the album release, July 17th at Continental Club!

Are we blogging? Ok, so this is a blog.  Can you hear me? I guess I just…write?  I feel like I’m taking a lesson in sewing (which I did do recently) and I have no idea where to start from, so I’m just… starting.  Is that cool? I also kind of feel like I’m standing in front of a dark cave and I can’t see in but I can hear my echo.  I’m sure I’ll get used to this.

I love a good Thursday!  Lots happening at Camp Stuckey regarding the upcoming release of our album, The Old States.  I’m burning the candle at both ends to get everything in order and I’m really excited.  Tonight we play at the Tasting Room for those of you who are looking for a great place to chill and have a glass of wine.  Let me tell you why I love playing at the Tasting Room:  1. It’s very laid back. 2. I get to people watch while singing. 3. We have fun. 4. You have fun. We’ll get going around 8pm tonight!
