Katie Stuckey is a Texas based singer songwriter, who has been named by the Houston Press ‘Best Female Vocalist’ in Houston for two consecutive years. (06-07) Katie’s musical career began at an early age as a member of the professional children’s choir: The Colorado Children’s Chorale. It was with the Chorale that Katie had the privilege of sharing the stage with the late John Denver. Katie continued to pursue music all throughout her childhood and into her teenage years.
Katie graduated from the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music with a BFA in dramatic performance. Post college, Katie followed a career in professional theater, and musical theater. It was during this time that she decided to pick up her guitar and try her hand in writing her own music. Her career took her to Los Angeles, and it was there that she began to perform her music for audiences, this was also the where she recorded her debut self entitled album in 2006. The album was recorded with good friends and artists, “Check in the Dark” in Los Angeles, CA. Produced by Katie Stuckey and Eli Hludzick along with Wes Styles and Mike Frieman, front man of Check in the Dark. The album is currently available on itunes and cdbaby and features Katie’s early singer/songwriter tunes and one track by Mike Frieman.
Not long after the release of Katie’s solo album, Katie made the move to Texas where her music found a home as it undeniably offers an americana/folk mix that is surely rooted in the South. The same year as the release of her first album(2006), Katie was first named Best Female Vocalist by the Houston Press and her band was named Best Folk/Acoustic by the Houston Press. In 2007, the band again was named Best Female Vocalist and Best Country by the Press.
In 2008 Katie and her band were selected to play at SXSW in Austin in 2008. The same year the group released their first EP. The band members are: Katie on acoustic guitars and lead vocals, Craig Feazel on Pedal Steel, Mandolin, and Lead Guitars, Paul Beebe on Drums and Vocals, Will Thomas on Guitars, Banjo and Vocals, Mark Riddell on Guitars and Vocals, and Tommy Ramsey on keys and other instruments.
During the summer of 2009, the group worked with Producer William Ryan Fritch and recorded their much anticipated full length album entitled ‘The Old States’, which was released July, 2010. The album took shape as a collaboration not only featuring Katie’s songs, but all other members are songwriters and lyricists on the album as well.
